Here I am about ready to snorkel at Shark's Cove on the North Shore on Oahu. The snorkeling here isn't as good as Hanauma Bay with regard to species variety and water clarity, but the setting is better. Less people, deeper water and nice beaches all over. I saw a nice basketball court just above the beach. Next time I go to Hawaii I have to play basketball there! The trip to the beach, however, was a bit hairy. The mid-1980s van the University of Hawaii furnished for this trip had a rotting back tire. It blew on the highway. Luckily we had a spare and AAA. Unfortunately, the spare was more warped than the tire that popped. On the way home the spare tire blew. We called AAA again, but they would not come to bail us out a second time. Oh well. We took the bus and stopped in Hale'iwa for a North Shore Hawaiian specialty: shave ice. The shave ice was great. Soon we made it back to campus! Too bad about the flats, but it seemed hard to become upset in such a laid back setting.

Posing in front of a weathered stone monument outside of Lanikai. Not far from this city marker is a great beach with two offshore islands. Great place for kayaking or hanging out. The beach is very long and there is a lot of room to play frisbee, jog, etc.
